PS 19 EVCS CHESS PROGRAM 

Students participating in a Pushing Pawns school chess lesson with National Master Shawn Martinez in an engaging classroom en

PS 19 EVCS Chess Club & Team program will be led by National Chess Master Shawn Martinez & Pushing Pawns coaches. Whether your child is a complete beginner or an advancing tournament player, our goal is for all PS 19 EVCS students to experience the joy and educational benefits of learning and playing chess. Our PS 19 EVCS Team will prepare for Local, City, State, and National Competitions.

PROGRAM VISION

  • Kings & Queens Group: Intermediate & advanced coaching with a focus on developing players for chess team competitions. Great for intermediate & advanced students in grades K-5.

  • Rooks Group:  Introductory coaching & social play with a focus on competition. Great for beginner & novice level students in grades 3-5. 

  • Passed Pawns:  Introductory coaching & social play with a focus on competition. Great for beginner & novice level students in grades K-2. 

 

 

Our program emphasizes participation, engagement, and self-study. These groups will meet on Monday's, Tuesday's, and  Wednesday's. It will help us place students in the best learning and playing environment. Players will be promoted throughout the season based on progress, as determined by our coaches.

CLASS GROUPING OPTIONS

Time:

2:30 START TIME

4:30 PICK UP

 

During regular school dismissal, all students will be picked up from the yard and brought to chess club.

Dismissal takes place at the main entrance 185 1st Ave.

 

Students should pack a light snack/beverage, time will be provided for students before the chess games begins.
